Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, published in 1865, is one of the finest examples of the literary nonsense genre. Lewis Carroll's story of a young girl who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantastical world populated by eccentric characters — the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, the Cheshire Cat — has delighted children and adults alike for over 150 years. Carroll, a mathematician at Oxford, filled the book with clever wordplay, logical paradoxes, and satirical observations of Victorian society. It remains one of the most quoted books in the English language.
